Solana
[edit]I have been asking for help, but none seemed available. It was 4.45 pm, I got woke up by something here and did it rather than call for help because I did not want to leave it as it was, and I did want to go back to bed. I am unhappy about being blocked (if it happens), though fine to be told I did wrong. If I get blocked for 24 hours I can live with it, but I don't want any more trouble. She had also vandalsied my home page earlier on that day. I am at the end of my patience with this one. --SqueakBox 16:55, Mar 11, 2005 (UTC)
Everything I touch like Rfx always goes wrong. Harks back to my youthful technophobia. Any help ther ewould be appreciated. Basically this article was written by User:Cumbey to provide evidences that Solana is the Beast. I removed these evidences over a period of time, and also corrected inaccuracies such as the insertion that ex Spanish president is Ferdinand González, not Felipe González and that the EU have a vote on the UN Security council. I wish! I told her about these mistakes, so when she reverted to them I assumed it was pure vandalism. She also removed my extra bits about ending Russian hostilities while he was at NATO. That is why I reverted. She also trashed my user page, and only engages in insults on the talk pages, whereas i have justified in detail my edits. --SqueakBox 17:21, Mar 11, 2005 (UTC)
Sorry to be stupid. Which is the Rfc. Any comments at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/3RR would be great. I am happy to apologise, but I don't want to be blocked, though a break might be good, and I can always go to Spanish wikipedia, which needs lots of input. --SqueakBox 17:59, Mar 11, 2005 (UTC)
I hear what you say about vandalism. I now know I could have reported her violation rather than doing anything else; I know for another time. --SqueakBox 18:48, Mar 11, 2005 (UTC) So I have taken your advice, including rewriting my opening statement and if I get blocked and she reverts again it is probably best for me not to get involved anyway. But we are trying to resplve things off line. Just accepting I will get a ban, and i can then just get on with things again, and just never do it again. Trying to spread my interests and not just get involved with one thing. Cheers for your support; it has really helped calm me down. --SqueakBox 21:16, Mar 11, 2005 (UTC)
User:Cumbey has now engaged in an identical edit war at [1]. Any help would be much appreciated. --SqueakBox 17:15, Mar 12, 2005 (UTC)
What she actually said was In my humble opinion, you are using too much Rastafarian 'wisdom weed'
a/k/a 'janja' and perhaps the local authorities need to investigate
your increasingly clearly existing stash. This after saying Your crime was committed on
your Caribbean Island territory. I plan to contact the consulate to
make your local authorities aware of your committing crimes with your
computer. It is a very long term felony here! in reference to my supposed hacking. I imagine the police here are much more like ion Trinidad, and the same with the US and UK; things don't work here like they do in England. I have had it up to here with her, am withdrawing from involvement in the Solana article, and am going to get on with Central American characters, starting with Efraín Ríos Montt, who I saw speak in Guatemala in 2003, cheers --SqueakBox 01:00, Mar 15, 2005 (UTC)
Caribbean ethnic groups
[edit]I've moved them to the regional subcategory because I was moving out everything that wasn't world-wide (or at least everything that was confined to one relatively contained part of the Earth) from Category:Ethnic groups.
If you think they belong to a subcategory of some other region, please feel free to move them accordingly, just as long as you don't move them back to the old too generic category, it was too crowded.
I've now taken a look at our articles describing Caribbean and Central America and I have to say that my high school geography classes here in distant little Croatia had a different definition of Central America - our school curriculum defined it basically as everything south of the US and north of South America... --Joy [shallot] 23:49, 13 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Yeah. I remember our geography professor saying that according to purely physiogeographic criteria, the Americas can be divided simply into the North and the South one, but noted that this was too academic to describe the real world accurately. I'll leave it to you to figure out the best way to categorize. :) --Joy [shallot] 00:06, 14 Mar 2005 (UTC)
WIF
[edit]Please feel free to fix. West Indies Federation has claimed for ages that the Federation had a Prime Minister, and a Governor-General, which seemed to me to indicate that it was indeed a Dominion, though perhaps not one that the Statute of Westminster applied to. Obviously you know more about this than me. Morwen - Talk 07:11, 14 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Well, i'll try to do some research. Yes, it was never called that in its lifetime - but that's the new name of what it was then. I see reference to "associate statehood" which seems to be the full-internal-autonomy status. Morwen - Talk 20:03, 14 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Sorry about that. Sometimes my fingers develop a mind of their own.
Actually, I'm not sure how Robert May should be classified in terms of stubs. There's a UK-bio-stub for British people and a peer-stub for peers (the entire peerage system baffles me, though, so I really can't tell whether being a peer makes a person inherently British). However, Robert May has been categorized as both an Australian scientist and a British zoologist and the article claims that he was born in Australia. If you know more about him than that then please, by all means, do something about this strange mess! (There is also a scientist-stub template that can be used.) The official policy when there are several stub templates that might apply seems to be "whatever you feel like". -Aranel ("Sarah") 21:10, 15 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- You can probably get away with two stub templates if you like. (It starts to get a little questionable if there are more than two, but there seems to be agreement that two is probably okay.) -Aranel ("Sarah") 21:21, 15 Mar 2005 (UTC)
T&T Map
[edit]I'm glad you like it. I just can't stand those silly featureless CIA maps. I've replaced a number of them.
I would have liked to show the internal boundaries and name one or two rivers, but I couldn't find a map with that information. Kelisi 00:53, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC)
William Beebe
[edit]Dear Guettarda:
You wrote me the following question some time ago and I answered it on my talk page but, as I was new, I didn't know how to put it on yours.
"Did you know Beebe or have some other direct connect with him? I have always been fascinated by him Guettarda 02:32, 9 Feb 2005 (UTC)"
So, in case you missed my answer, here it is now:
Yes, I was very fortunate when I was a young teenager to know Dr. Beebe quite well. My father, Dr. A. E. ("Ted") Hill was a close personal friend, and later his doctor, in Trinidad. I spent several summer holidays, between about 1954 aqnd 1959 working at the Research Station at Simla as a "laboratory and field assistant". We often stayed with Asa Wright when we were up visiting from Port of Spain.
Dr. Beebe was certainly a most extraordinary person - full of charm and wit, and a very patient teacher. He taught me how to really love and appreciate the wonder of nature - I have very fond memories of afternoons spent wandering alone through the forests, birdwatching and chatting - just the two of us. If you would like to discuss him further - please do not hesitate to write to me directly at: wynhill@bigpond.com (PS you will have to add the character for "at" here between "wynhill" and "bigpond" - I can't find the symbol)
Cheers,
John Hill 02:53, 9 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Naming convention
[edit]Common "places" naming convention on Wikipeda is Foo, Trinidad and Tobago. So, please change brackets to comma in your articles. BTW nice work about Trinidad and Tobago towns and places. Keep going. When you will be adding another articles in future, please add it also to List of cities in Trinidad and Tobago. -- Darwinek 22:37, 21 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Caribbean stubs
[edit]Hi Guettarda - You wrote: You started {{Caribbean-geo-stubs}} a couple months ago, and I was wondering if it might not be appropriate to complement it with a {{Caribbean-bio-stub}}.
- Possibly - it would make sense if bio-stubs were broken up the same way as geo-stubs. But it largely depends on how many Caribbean bio-stubs there are. It's worth you suggesting it at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Criteria, though - that's where the stub-dividing work's going on. And there are people there working on bio-stubs who'll have far better ideas than I do about what the best way to divide them up are. Grutness|hello? 23:53, 21 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Re: Solar greenhouse (technical)
[edit]Hi - I have done a rewrite on Solar greenhouse (technical) in hopes of defusing an ongoing edit war. Assuming the war is on hold for a bit, I'm seeking advice and input from a few editors, and would like you to take a look and offer comments or criticisms. Let me know if I'm on track or not. Thanks, Vsmith 17:00, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Abdullah Öcalan to merge with PKK
[edit]Can you please reconsider your desicion. The mans life mostly revolved around the organisation. His life basicaly is a very short summary of PKK Activity. His pre organisation life is not significant from any average person. These two articles are also subject to vandalism every here and there it would simplify my workload enforcing a non vandal world if these articles were merged. Thanks Cat chi? 17:05, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Well, what I want to do is move contents of the Abdullah Öcalan artile and stick into a category under PKK. If you read both articles you'll see that Abdullah Öcalan constantly refers to works of PKK. Tha articles combined is not large either. Cat chi? 17:22, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Ranking
[edit]Check out the "new" ranking list. I elaborated it a bit. Looks better? More clear? What do you suggest? Cat chi? 21:11, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Thank you
[edit]Hi Guettarda, thank you so much for supporting me in my adminship nomination. I very much appreciate your support. Best, SlimVirgin 03:46, Mar 24, 2005 (UTC)
Ranking
[edit]You are welcime to use my ranking system. I created the "elite" rank because of people like BM as you suggested. Barn stars are normaly awarded for exeptional contribution, when I was awarded one I was actualy quite suprised :) Cat chi? 19:31, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Thank re my arbcomm case

Categories
[edit]Hi Guettarda. Can you please remove category:Trinidad and Tobago from some towns you created? Category:Towns in Trinidad and Tobago is already a subcategory in Cat. Trinidad and Tobago, so is unnecessary to have towns like San Juan, Trinidad and Tobago in both categories. -- Darwinek 22:24, 25 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Solar greenhouse (technical)
[edit]Have you read the entire discussion on the talk page? The convection suppression concept directly contradicts both the published theory and experimental measurements of the mechanism of greenhouse operation. Please read the discussion, and please read the sources referenced, if you're going to be part of the reverting. — Cortonin | Talk 02:15, 26 Mar 2005 (UTC)
